Another impressive day...Miami #3

Day two was another good day for the "small start-up club out of Nashville"...apparently they didn't know who they were messing with. First up was Mizuno M1 and while we started a bit slow we caught our rhythm and finally put away on a Reidy and Click block. 25-23

Game two saw us take a lead and then squander it at 13-13. After that we were in catch up mode as we could find a way to get over the hump, but never fear the coaching of Mullins and Tucker took this ship into overdrive and we pulled off the victory. 25-21

Match # 2...Impact Bryan (hmm...not that Impact)
Let's just say this was a match for the ages. Think of Ali vs. Frazier as both teams kept delivering knock out blows...the only problem was neither would fall. The final ended up being 24-26...26-24...17-15.

This reporter found himself watching the match from all angles, not to get a full view but instead the nerves were getting the best of him. At one point in the third game I found myself literally peering around a pillar because I could not take it any longer. The game was capped by the very aggressive offensive play of Emily Vangrinsven and the breakout match of the young but VERY talented Casey Mense on the defensive end. The match saw countless spectacular plays from the entire team.

Match #3...Springfield Juniors

This match was for first in the pool as both teams came into the match undefeated at 4-0. Springfield jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in game one, taking it 11-25. Game two saw our girls come out with a purpose and while it was a bit of back and forth they eventually prevailed taking it 25-23. So it was winner take all and unfortunately Springfield took it 15-8. It was a long day and the girls appeared to be a bit fatigued at the end.

All in all it was a GREAT start for Nashville One, going 4-1 in the opening pool. They will return to action tomorrow at 9am est against Alamo and then Northern Lights 16-2 at 10am.

These girls continue to impress the fans and college coaches. We are very proud of them and if you get a chance please wish them luck for tomorrow.

BTW...dinner was great last night but we could have used a CPA to figure out the bill.

2-0 start for N1 16 in Miami...Miami #2

What a day it was for the young upstart club Nashville One. Nashville One 16 got started in the 10 am match, pitted against Cincy Classics. In game one Nashville One led most of the way and finally took the win on a Stephanie Click kill off a slide set by Kristy Hughes. 25-23

Key players in the game one win were Emily VanGrinsven and her offensive output and the defensive presence by Casey Mense.

Game two was bak and forth the entire game. At 5-5 we saw a defensive rally capped off by a Caroline Carlton pancake that IHOP would have been proud of. 11-13 Lauren Kaufman showed us a crafty lefty pokie that went down for the kill and got the rally started. Overcoming a ton serving errors was tough to do but Nashville One prevailed winning the second game 26-24.

Key players in game two was the connection of Stephanie Click, Molly Reidy and Kristy Hughes in the middle.

Match #2...Iowa Rockets

The girls got off to a slow start...finally taking the lead at 24-23. But the game went on as Nashville One finally took the win at 28-26.

Keys to the win were the defensive play by Kirsten Taylor and Lauren Kaufman at the net.

Game two was one of those games where nothing went our girls way, including the ending as Iowa Rockets took it 25-21.

Game three started out with a bang as our girls jumped out to a 8-1 lead...capped off by Stephanie Click BOUNCING a ball on the 3 foot line. No joke that thing was sick. Well our girls wanted to make it interesting and that they did. Iowa Rockets fought back and tied at 11. Emily Had an awesome ace down the line to take the lead but a controversial call allowed the Rockets back. A pair of slides by Kaufman and Click made it all good as the girls won 15-13.

Off to dinner with the team...will report back to you tonight.

Rising Stars Clinic...HUGE SUCCESS

After six weeks of hard work the Rising Star Clinic had it's last practice Thursday night. It was a special night as the parents got into the action as they took on their daughters in a hard fought battle. We want to thank all the players and their parents for this great opportunity and we look forward to seeing all of them at try-outs.
